A Tacoma, Wash. man could face criminal charges after arguing with a woman about her reading light on an Alaska Airlines flight.

The 50-year-old man, whose name has not been released, allegedly asked a female passenger to turn off her reading light so he could sleep, according to The Associated Press.?The situation reportedly became an argument after she declined.

The Alaska Airlines plane was in flight from Honolulu to Bellingham International Airport in Washington state.

Washington State Patrol spokesman Keith Leary?told The Bellingham Herald that authorities questioned the man after the flight landed early Saturday, but he was then allowed to go home.?Leary also told the Herald that the man shouted expletives at people on the plane, but did not make any threats to hurt anyone.

According to the AP, the disruption on the plane could result in criminal charges, depending on what federal officials decide.

'Wazzock': British media hammer Romney on Olympic comments

LONDON?On day three of his overseas tour, Mitt Romney woke up to unfriendly headlines from the British media, who continue to trash him for telling NBC News that he found preparations for the Olympics here "disconcerting."

"Mitt the Twit," declared The Sun tabloid, condemning Romney as a "wannabe president."

The Independent headlined their take on Romney's trip, "Romneyshambles"?accusing him of not only committing a diplomatic gaffe but later "the cardinal sin of U.S. politics, flip-flopping" on his criticism.

The Daily Telegraph suggested Romney's "Olympic gaffe" had overshadowed his trip to London.

Meanwhile, the conservative Daily Mail slammed Romney as "devoid of charm, offensive and a wazzock."

Romney's comments led newscasts on both Sky News and the BBC on Thursday night and early Friday morning, just hours ahead of the Olympic opening ceremonies here.

"Is this guy really prepared to be president?" one Sky News reporter asked in his Thursday night report about Romney's day in London. The reporter trashed the GOP candidate's comments as "just daft."

Romney has repeatedly tried to dial back his criticism, first in a news conference Thursday outside 10 Downing Street, where he had met with British Prime Minister David Cameron, who had been publicly critical of Romney's remarks earlier in the day.

In an interview with CNN's Piers Morgan Thursday night, Romney again tried to contain the controversy, telling the CNN host he believes the London games will be successful.

Apple has apparently been in talks with Twitter officials in recent months about making a possible investment in the micro-blogging platform, reports The New York Times. Described as ?a strategic investment?, it could value Twitter at more than ten billions.

Fortune?s Philip Elmer-DeWitt noted?that ?this time, Facebook is reportedly taking its commitment to Apple more seriously?, though ?Apple seems to be taking nothing for granted?.

The speculation among developers is that Apple and Facebook agreed for reasons unknown to wait for the release of iOS 6, also scheduled for this fall.

I?d say that perhaps with this rumored Twitter acquisition Apple sent Facebook a message. Or was it the other way round, that Facebook deliberately postponed integration with Mountain Lion on its end, knowing Apple was cozying up to Twitter?

Europe's Big Bang: Mario Draghi's Pledge Sends ... - Yahoo! Finance

Financial markets rallied around the world Thursday morning after European Central Bank President Mario Draghi declared "the ECB is ready to do whatever it takes to preserve the euro...and believe me, it will be enough."

By suggesting that rising sovereign bond yields could "hamper the functioning of the monetary policy transmission channel," Draghi seemed to identify a loophole that will allow the ECB to act more aggressively to address the crisis, including a Fed-style round of quantitative easing.

What's important here is not so much Draghi's pledge to preserve the euro, which was understood, but his opening the door to QE -- direct bond purchases by the central bank vs. the "cash for trash" program it offered the banks earlier this year, known as LTRO. To some market watchers, this is the "big bang" out of Europe that could mark the beginning of the end of the crisis.

"There is finally light at the end of the tunnel," writes Chris Rupkey, chief financial economist at Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubish. "When the ECB is done there won't be a short against the Euro left on the planet."

Indeed, the euro rallied against the dollar in response to Draghi's comments while yields on Spanish and Italian debt yields fell dramatically. European stock bourses and industrial commodities jumped in reaction and U.S. markets rallied at the open in New York. In recent trading, the Dow (^DJI) was up 260 points.

Conversely, there was selling in 'safe havens' such as German bunds and U.S. Treasuries.

After myriad "false dawns" in Europe in recent years, it's tempting to be skeptical that Draghi's comments will have any lasting impact.

"We're seeing another instance of central bankers trying to save the day with the threat of their printing machine," writes Miller Tabak's Peter Boockvar.

And, indeed, there are questions about what actions Draghi will actually take (and when), whether the Germans will support him and if ECB action can really change the trajectory of Europe's economy, as I discuss in the accompanying video with my Breakout colleague Matt Nesto.

But throughout the crisis, critics have said the ECB needed to do more and Draghi opening the door to a Bernanke-style monetary policy in Europe is a big deal -- at least for the financial markets.

Exclusive: Huff Post executive Lauren Kapp to exit after just three months

(Reuters) - Lauren Kapp, one of Arianna Huffington's key advisors at the Huffington Post Media Group, is leaving the company, effective August 1.

She is leaving for personal reasons, an AOL spokeswoman confirmed.

Kapp was hired by AOL's influential news site in April as senior vice president global strategy, marketing and communications.

Kapp did not immediately respond to calls for comment.

Before joining AOL, Kapp spent a decade at NBC Universal where she was the top communications executive and a member of NBC News president Steve Capus' inner circle. She was instrumental in promoting and branding some of the news division's most popular programs including "Today," "Nightly News with Brian Williams" and "Meet the Press."

The differences between NBC and the Huffington Post are vast: NBC is part of a huge corporate conglomerate controlled by cable operator Comcast Corp and its news division has a long, storied history.

The Huffington Post, founded in 2005, is a scrappy upstart that has rewritten the rule book in how news is presented and consumed on the Internet with its mixture of aggregation, heavy use of photos, original reporting and commentary.

In 2011, AOL acquired the Huffington Post for $315 million. Under the wing of AOL, the Huffington Post has expanded internationally and editorially with a masthead with boldface names such as former New York Times editor Timothy L. O'Brien and former Newsweek political correspondent Howard Fineman.

This year it won one the most prestigious award in American journalism, the Pulitzer Prize, for David Wood's series about the challenges facing wounded American soldiers coming home from war.

NBC attempted to buy the Huffington Post before AOL made the blockbuster acquisition. "We tried for the last 18 months at NBC to buy the Huffington Post; we could never agree on price is why it never got done," Former NBC Universal CEO Jeff Zucker said in February 2011.

I was genuinely surprised to read that the new Chrome (for iPhone) commanded a 1.5 percent browser market share among iPhone users within its first month. After all Chrome isn't "real" Chrome, it's just Safari wrapped in Chrome's minimalist interface with a few trademark Chrome features. But it's better designed than Safari, and, if you're (understandably) bored with Safari, it's a great alternative.

Fake Chrome
Wait, Chrome isn't "real" Chrome? A point that my colleague, lead mobile analyst Sascha Segan, has belabored since 2009 is that there's no such thing as an alternative mobile browser to Safari. Almost all of them are simply wrappers over the Safari engine, and Chrome is no exception. Opera Mini (3.5 stars, Free) comes closest to being an alternative browser?it compresses Web pages in its servers, but loading is still done through Safari.

Chrome for iOS isn't as lightning fast as Chrome on an Android device or a PC. Why? Technically Chrome for iOS doesn't have Chrome's speedy V8 JavaScript engine that makes page loading lightning fast. ?

As Fast (Or Slow) As Safari

I went surfing on an AT&T 3G connection and found that Chrome and Safari load times were about the same. Opera Mini was faster for loading search results (thanks to its compressed pages, no doubt), but slower for loading rich Web content.

A search for "cheap hotels Manhattan" took two seconds in Chrome, Safari, and Opera. On a strong AT&T connection, Opera Mini moved twice as fast in real-world testing. A rich page like Radioshack.com averaged 4 seconds to load the mobile version in Chrome, three in Safari, and five in Opera Mini.

Chrome Interface
Chrome for iPhone's key selling point is its slick, minimalist interface. If you're a desktop Chrome user, you're probably already familiar with Chrome's flagship features, such as Incognito browsing, autofilling, and the unified search/address bar (called omnibox). That's all in mobile Chrome too.

Most browsers (except for Safari) feature tabbing, but Chrome does it beautifully. A single tap on the tab icon next to your omnibox opens up a new tab. You can open a seemingly infinite number of tabs and swipe left/right to move from one to the next, or you can flip through them like a Rolodex.

Tabs in Chrome have a functional benefit as well, though that hasn't reached the mobile app yet. In desktop Chrome each tab has a separate rendering processes, which from an end user perspective means that if one tab crashes, or is breached, it doesn't affect any of your other open tabs.

Incognito browsing is another Chrome favorite. This merely lets you browse privately, without saving any pages to your search history or any having any cookies collected.

Under Settings you'll find a few more smart extras than distinguish Chrome from Safari. For instance, you can choose to automatically save passwords, block pop-ups, load desktop versions of websites, and find text within a page.

But for long-time Chrome users, perhaps the best part is Google sync. If you sign into your Chrome account you can see all the bookmarks, browsing history, and even open tabs from your Chrome on other platforms. Even if you have Chrome open on more than one device, this data syncs pretty quickly.

Limited Integration
Like other "alternative browsers" for iOS, Chrome is poorly integrated with other iOS features. You can't make Chrome your default browser, so any URL you click from within a text message or email is automatically opened in Safari. Furthermore the browser doesn't support geolocation features, and you won't find a Flash plug-in. ?

But, ultimately, Chrome for the iPhone is a polished alternative wrapper for long-time Safari users, with a few smart extras. If you use Chrome on a desktop regularly, it's worth a download so you can quickly sync your load all your bookmarks and Google away.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) ? Netflix?s second-quarter earnings plunged 91 percent amid a slowdown in its subscriber growth.

The financial deterioration reported Tuesday follows a rare loss for the video subscription service during the opening three months of the year.

Although earnings were better than analysts anticipated, the disappointing subscriber growth and a muddied outlook for the rest of the year unnerved investors, who already have become skeptical about Netflix?s prospects amid intensifying competition. Netflix?s stock plummeted 14 percent after the results came out.

Netflix Inc. has been struggling to recover from a customer backlash following a dramatic price increase imposed last year. It also faces higher fees to license TV shows and movies for a service that shows an unlimited amount of video over the Internet for $8 a month.

In the latest quarter, Netflix added 1.1 million subscribers to the Internet streaming service worldwide. The increase left Netflix with 27.6 million Internet video subscribers through June, including nearly 24 million in the U.S.

The second-quarter subscriber gains were in line with management prediction, but analysts had hoped for more after Netflix CEO Reed Hastings disclosed that usage of the streaming service had been steadily increasing.

The subscriber growth in this year?s second quarter also was well below the nearly 2 million customers picked up at the same time last year.

Netflix cautioned it also may be tougher to get more people to sign up during the current quarter as the upcoming broadcast of the Summer Olympics fills the entertainment needs of many households for two weeks of the 12-week period. The Olympics start Friday.

The company, which is based in Los Gatos, Calif., also reiterated earlier warnings that it?s likely to sustain another loss at the end of the year as it pays for the expansion of its streaming service into its fourth market outside the U.S. Netflix hasn?t said where that will be. It already serves Canada, Latin America and the United Kingdom.

?We have enormous challenges ahead, and no doubt will have further ups and downs as we pioneer Internet television,? Hastings wrote in a letter accompanying the results.

While Netflix focuses on online video these days, it still hangs onto a DVD-by-mail rental service that initially made the company a household name. The DVD business shed another 850,000 customers during the second quarter, leaving 9.2 million subscribers still paying to receive the discs. The company expects to lose as many as 900,000 more DVD customers during the current quarter ending in September.

Netflix now has 30.1 million subscribers worldwide on streaming, DVD or combined plans. That includes 26.5 million in the U.S.

Netflix earned $6.2 million, or 11 cents per share, in the latest quarter. That compared with $68 million, or $1.26 per share, a year ago.

The earnings topped the average estimate of 4 cents per share among analyst surveyed by FactSet.

Revenue for the period rose 13 percent from last year to $889 million, matching analyst projections.

Netflix?s stock lost $11.28 to $69.11 in extended trading. During the regular session, it gained 45 cents to close at $80.39.

Ryan Roberts was told that the move to designate him for assignment this afternoon was a prelude to a trade, and the deal got done tonight, as the versatile veteran is on his way to Tampa Bay in exchange for minor league infielder Tyler Bortnick.

It appears likely that city police officers will help patrol next month's Republican National Convention in Tampa.

City Manager Greg Horwedel proposes making available about 20 officers, including six who will be on bikes and three on motorcycles. The Tampa Police Department will reimburse the city for its costs, such as wages.

The Plant City Police Department will adjust its schedules to ensure there are enough officers on duty here.

Epic Summer Road Trip - Driving the Central Coast

We got a bit of a late start on Monday morning, which was SO nice for a change. The kids played with their new friends and we packed up. Our friends went with us when we left so they could show us the harbor seals hanging out near the boardwalk. The kids got a big kick out of watching the seals sunbathing and playing in the waves. It was every bit as enjoyable as Sea Lion Cave, but totally free!

We said goodbye to our friends and headed South on Highway 1 (also known as the Pacific Coast Highway or PCH). Josh and I drove PCH from Astoria, Washington to San Diego, California on our honeymoon, so it was fun driving it again with the kids.

It?s a GORGEOUS drive up the coast, but it?s a very winding road and it takes FOREVER to get anywhere. We pulled off every so often at the scenic turnouts to stretch our legs and take in the views.

We stopped off at a really awesome day use area about 60 miles North of San Luis Obispo. (I meant to take note of the name of it, but totally forgot. I pulled some punch balloons out of our adventure bag and we took them with us. We walked down the trail all the way to the beach. We had an epic punch balloon fight on the beach, with the waves rolling in.

We really didn?t want the kids to get in the water and get soaked, but it seems that you can?t let the Solar kids anywhere near the shore. They were in the water within 5 minutes of us getting there. I guess I can?t really blame them. They ran in and out, letting the waves chase them up the shore.

We managed to get back to the car before anyone got completely soaked, which is almost hard to believe. We weren?t driving 5 minutes before Lia was saying, ?Mom, I want live at the beach.? Oh Lia, don?t we all?

Our next stop was at Hearst San Simeon State Park to check out the elephant seals. There are hundreds of them hanging out on the beach and in the water. Josh and I remembered stopping there on our honeymoon. Elephant seals are HUGE and they?re loud and they love to bully each other.

We continued down Highway 1, all the way into San Luis Obispo. We met up with some friends and the kids were SO excited that they had kids as well. They ran around, riding bikes, playing tag, doing crafts, and playing board games.
